How much promethazine for sleep?

Since my new work schedule, I'm finding it really hard to fall asleep at night. A friend mentioned promethazine for occasional sleeplessness. Just wondering about the dosage for sleep.

I used to take this when my sleep cycle was completely ruined. But honestly, using an antihistamine for sleep is a bad trap because the next day hangover is terrible. Try setting a fixed screen-off time at 9 PM instead, it works much better in the long run.

Bro, if I knew the magic dose to sleep, I wouldn't be replying to this at 3 AM myself! Promethazine is actually an allergy medicine and will just leave you feeling like a zombie tomorrow. Better to count sheep or watch some boring lecture on YouTube.

Whenever I have sleep issues, I go to Apollo and get a proper prescription. You should never guess the dosage for psychiatric or sedative drugs as they can affect your heart rate. Please ask a qualified doctor to give you the exact dose if you need it.

Please do not self-medicate with these heavy medicines for sleep. I once ignored my chronic insomnia and just took over-the-counter pills until I fainted at work. Get your blood work and stress levels checked by a proper doctor before taking any sedative.

I was just reading about this online because my friend was talking about it. Apparently, it is not even mainly a sleep medication, it is for nausea and allergies. Taking random doses for sleep seems pretty risky, so definitely check with a doc first.

My doctor explicitly warned me against using promethazine as a regular sleep aid because it can cause severe dry mouth and urinary issues. He told me that if it is absolutely necessary for short-term use, only a very low dose of 10mg to 25mg is prescribed, but only under strict medical supervision.
