How much pasta can a diabetic eat?
My husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and we're trying to figure out his diet. He loves pasta, but we're not sure how it fits in. Can a diabetic still eat pasta, and if so, how much is okay?

I agree with most of the tips here. Keeping the portion small and adding lots of vegetables is the key to managing the spike.
Eating fancy diabetic pasta can get very expensive, and so are the frequent HbA1c tests if things go wrong. I find it better to stick to a small cup of regular whole wheat pasta once in a while, mixed with cheap local veggies. Just make sure to test your sugar two hours after to see how your body reacts.
Don't feel disheartened, you can still enjoy your favorite food. Just try having a very small bowl of pasta, maybe along with a salad, so you feel full without hurting your health.
Beta, maida pasta is not good for sugar patients at all. If you really want to eat, make suji or wheat pasta and put plenty of garlic, methi leaves, and beans in it. Also, drink a little warm water with roasted cumin after eating to help digestion.
I know how frustrating it is when you have to calculate every single bite of food you love. It made me so sad initially when I was diagnosed. Just start with half a cup of cooked pasta and don't be too hard on yourself, we are all learning how to manage this.
As a vegetarian, it can be tricky to get enough protein to balance the carbs in pasta. I suggest using chickpea or millet pasta instead of regular white pasta. Limit it to half a cup and toss it with broccoli, paneer, and olive oil to keep the glycemic index low.
My dad has diabetes and we love pasta nights, so we just switched to wheat pasta. Honestly, we just control the portion size, like he takes only a small bowl and we pack the rest with paneer. It works out fine and his sugar doesn't shoot up.
I am not an expert, but in my own journey with diabetes, white pasta is a big no. If I ever crave it, I strictly limit myself to 3-4 tablespoons of cooked wheat pasta mixed with a lot of chicken and sauteed veggies. That way my levels stay relatively stable.
My diabetologist told me that the cooking style matters too. She advised cooking pasta 'al dente' (slightly firm) because overcooked pasta raises blood sugar much faster. She recommended sticking to a maximum of 1/2 cup of cooked whole-grain pasta per meal, combined with good fiber and protein.
I was just diagnosed last month and I am still so confused about what to eat. Is millet pasta actually better than regular wheat pasta for sugar control? I would love to know if anyone here has tried it and checked their levels.
