How much milk thistle per day for liver?

My father always told me to take care of my liver. I'm considering starting milk thistle for general liver support, but I'm unsure about the daily amount. How much milk thistle should one take per day for liver health?

Please get an LFT (Liver Function Test) and an ultrasound done first to see the actual condition of your liver. Do not start taking milk thistle on your own without getting a doctor's clearance.

Look for a supplement that contains 70% to 80% silymarin. A standard safe dose is usually 140mg taken once or twice a day with meals. Just make sure you don't take it if you are pregnant without asking your doctor.

I tried many herbal powders for my sluggish digestion, and a small 150mg milk thistle capsule daily really helped. But don't forget to drink warm water with lemon in the morning, it is also very good for liver health.

I was reading up on liver detoxes and saw that most research papers suggest 140mg to 420mg of milk thistle extract daily. It is split into two or three smaller doses throughout the day.

My gastroenterologist told me that while milk thistle (silymarin) is a popular supplement, the clinical dose for liver support is generally 140mg twice daily. He emphasized that it only supports liver cells and doesn't replace a low-fat diet.
