How much milk thistle for liver?

A friend of mine mentioned milk thistle is good for liver health. My recent blood tests showed slightly elevated liver enzymes, so I'm wondering how much of it I should take daily.

The standard dose for general liver health is usually around 140mg to 280mg of silymarin (the active part of milk thistle) daily. It is a good supplement, but make sure you buy a brand that standardizes the extract percentage.

My SGPT levels were high last year, and my doctor recommended 140mg of milk thistle twice a day. Along with cutting down on fatty foods, my liver enzymes came back to normal in two months.

My dad started taking milk thistle capsules for his fatty liver. He takes one pill of 200mg daily, but his doctor also made him stop eating late-night fried snacks, which I think did the real trick!

Milk thistle can sometimes affect blood sugar levels, so diabetics need to be careful. If you are taking it, monitor your sugar readings regularly and consult your doctor first.

I take a 150mg capsule of milk thistle daily after my lunch! It has helped my digestion quite a bit. Just remember to drink lots of water too! 💧
