How much melatonin for sleep?

I've been having trouble sleeping, and a friend suggested melatonin. How much melatonin is usually taken to help with sleep?

I tried taking 3mg of melatonin last night and woke up feeling extremely groggy and anxious. Did anyone else experience this heavy head feeling the next morning, or is it just me?

Don't worry, it's quite common to feel a bit heavy if the dose is too high. Try starting with a very low dose, like 1mg or even 0.5mg, and take it at least an hour before you plan to sleep. Rest well.

Honestly, people take way too much melatonin. 1mg to 3mg is the standard clinical range, and anything more is just overkill and ruins your sleep cycle. Just buy a lower strength tablet and see how it goes.

Hey, don't stress too much if you can't sleep tonight. Melatonin is fine for occasional use, but sometimes just keeping your phone away and reading a boring book works wonders too!

When I asked my neurologist about my insomnia, he explained that physiological melatonin doses are actually very small, around 0.3mg to 2mg. He warned me that high doses can desensitize your brain's receptors, so always consult a specialist before making it a daily habit.
