How much has mental health issues increased?

It feels like more and more people around me, especially younger ones, are openly talking about mental health struggles. My cousin recently got diagnosed with anxiety, and it got me thinking. How much have mental health issues increased, particularly in the last few years?

In our time, mental health wasn't talked about, it was considered a 'shame.' Now, people are at least speaking up, which is good. But yes, the pressures of modern life, competition, social media – all these have definitely made more people struggle. It's a global issue, not just here.

It's a huge problem now. I think it's not just that more people have issues, but also that we are finally talking about it more. Simple solutions like more family time, less screen time, and just listening to each other without judgment can make a big difference, even if it feels small.

The statistics are alarming, both globally and in India. Stress, financial pressures, and isolation are big contributors. As someone dealing with BP, I know stress impacts physical health directly. Regular checkups, both physical and mental, are becoming increasingly vital for everyone.

Honestly, the numbers for mental health issues are definitely up. I've seen it in my gym too, people coming in feeling overwhelmed. Physical activity, even just 30 mins a day, and a balanced diet, can seriously impact your mood and mental well-being. It's not a cure, but it helps.

It's not just an 'increase in reporting'; there's a genuine rise. I've personally struggled, and the pandemic amplified it for so many. The pressure to always be 'on' and 'productive' is immense. It's vital to validate these feelings and seek help, not just brush them under the carpet.

Yes, there is a clear increase, partly due to more awareness and reduced stigma, but also due to genuine societal pressures. I've found that regular yoga and pranayama can be incredibly grounding. Connecting with your breath and body can bring a lot of peace amidst the chaos, it helps manage the mind.
