How much does a kidney donor get?

My cousin is thinking of donating a kidney to a distant relative. She's worried about the lost work time and expenses during recovery. Does a kidney donor get any compensation or financial support?

Legally, a kidney donor does not receive any monetary compensation. Organ donation in India, and most parts of the world, is based on altruism. Donors receive medical care related to the donation, but no payment for the organ itself. It's a huge act of generosity. Maintaining a healthy body through diet and exercise is key to potentially being a donor if needed!

A kidney donor legally gets... zero rupees. Nada. Nothing. Because selling organs is illegal, thankfully. They get the immense satisfaction of saving a life, which is priceless, I guess. And maybe a lot of well wishes! Though after being sleep deprived, sometimes I wonder if I have anything left to donate, haha.

Arey beti/beta, kidney dene wale ko paisa nahi milta hai. Yeh toh punya ka kaam hai, kisi ki jaan bachana. Sarkari niyam ke hisaab se, koi paisa nahi le sakta iska. Bhagwan unko bahut blessings dete hain bas. Koi zarurat ho toh doctor se baat karna, woh sahi rasta batayenge.

I totally get why this question might come up, as medical costs are so high these days. But legally and ethically, a kidney donor does not 'get' paid for their kidney. It's a donation, a gift of life. They are usually covered for their medical expenses related to the surgery and follow-up, but no financial compensation for the organ. It's a truly selfless act.

Initially, I too wondered about this when a friend needed a transplant. But the rule is clear: donors don't get paid for the organ. It's an act of pure generosity. All their medical expenses for the donation process are covered, but no actual payment for the kidney. It's how it should be, really, to avoid exploitation.

As someone who deals with health issues, I can tell you that for something like organ donation, there is no monetary gain for the donor. It's an altruistic act. All medical expenses related to the donation are usually covered, but no payment for the organ itself. Always consult doctors for such critical information and regular check-ups for your own health.

Oh, so they don't get money for it? I thought maybe they would get something for their sacrifice. So just their hospital bills are taken care of then? That's good at least.
