How much do newborns sleep?

My sister just had her baby, and she's worried because the baby seems to sleep a lot. She's asking me if it's normal. How much do newborns usually sleep in a day? Just want to reassure her.

Newborns typically sleep for long hours, about 14-17 hours a day, but in short bursts. However, every baby is different. If you have any concerns about your newborn's sleep patterns, whether they are sleeping too much or too little, it's always safest to consult with your pediatrician. Don't take any chances with a baby's health.

Newborns sleep like little logs... for about 20 minutes, then they're hungry again! 😂 Seriously though, they sleep a lot, but never for long enough for the parents to get proper rest. It's like 16-18 hours total, broken up. My eyes are still blurry thinking about it.

Sleep is crucial for newborns' development. While it doesn't have a direct 'cost', insufficient sleep can lead to developmental issues, which can later cost a lot in terms of medical interventions. So ensure your baby is getting enough rest. Roughly 14-17 hours is common, but it's all about their individual needs. Don't need any expensive tests, just observe your baby.

Haan, newborns sleep a lot, it's very natural for them to be sleepy most of the time. My Dadi used to say, 'baby jitna soyega, utna badhega'. But if they are too lethargic, not feeding, or sleeping much more than 18 hours consistently, then it's a good idea to just show them to the doctor once, just to be sure. Otherwise, let them sleep peacefully.

A newborn's sleep is a blessing, a period of quiet growth and development. They sleep many hours, almost all the time in the beginning, waking mainly to feed. Embrace this peaceful time. Keep your heart calm and positive, and trust in the natural rhythm of life. Any deep concerns, however, consult a wise doctor.

Yaar, newborns sleep a LOT, actually. Like 16-18 hours in a day, but in short bursts, na. They don't sleep through the night initially, it's all about feeding and changing. So parents get zero sleep. But it's totally normal for them to be mostly sleeping or eating. Don't stress too much!
