How much deep sleep do you need by age?
I'm 47, and my sleep patterns have changed over the years. My watch tracks deep sleep, and I see it decreasing. How much deep sleep do you need, and does it vary by age?

Deep sleep requirements definitely decline with age, but instead of guessing, it is best to ask your doctor. When I visited my doctor at Apollo, he clearly explained how sleep architecture changes as we grow older and what is normal for our age bracket.
As we get older, especially above 45, our deep sleep naturally decreases to under an hour, whereas younger folks get around 1.5 to 2 hours. Managing my blood sugar levels has actually helped me sleep more soundly, so keep an eye on your diet too.
My grandmother used to say elders sleep less deeply because we don't run around like children. Medical science also says deep sleep drops from 2 hours in youth to less than an hour as we cross 50. I always consult my family doctor to ensure my sleep changes are normal.
They say younger people get about 1.5 to 2 hours of deep sleep and it decreases with age. But honestly, regardless of age, a heavy late-night dessert will definitely ruin your deep sleep phase, so watch those sweet cravings!
I read that babies and kids need the most deep sleep for growth, while for us in our 20s, about 1.5 hours is normal. It naturally reduces as we get older. I just try to keep a consistent routine to get whatever my body naturally requires.

Honestly, as college students, our sleep schedule is so messed up, but apparently younger people need more deep sleep, like 2 hours. I barely get that because of late-night study sessions or gaming. Need to fix my routine soon!
Young adults need about 1.5 to 2 hours of deep sleep, but for middle-aged professionals, even 1 hour is quite standard. Given our tight schedules, focus on the quality of those 6-7 hours rather than stressing about age charts.
