How much daytime sleep for 5 month old?

Our 5-month-old son has started becoming quite active, but his naps are still frequent. We are wondering if he's getting enough rest. How much daytime sleep should a 5-month-old baby be having?

My daughter went through this exact phase at 5 months and wouldn't nap easily. Usually, they need about 3 to 4 hours of total daytime sleep, split into 3 short naps. Don't stress too much if they sleep slightly less some days, just watch their mood.

Honestly, don't go strictly by online charts because every baby is different. At 5 months, aim for 3 naps totaling around 3-4 hours, but the key is a consistent pre-nap routine. Just dim the lights and sing a lullaby 10 minutes before nap time, it works wonders.

I log my nephew's schedule on a baby tracker app and it shows most babies this age need around 3 to 3.5 hours of day sleep. His wake windows are usually around 2 hours before he gets cranky. Try tracking the windows, it actually helps to map their natural rhythm.

My wife and I used to take our little one out in the stroller for his morning nap while we did our daily walks. He easily got his required 1.5 hours of morning sleep that way, and we got our steps in too. Check with your pediatrician if you can take the baby out for gentle morning fresh air.

We just crossed this milestone last month! My son was barely sleeping 2 hours in the day and I was so worried, but our pediatrician said 3 to 4 hours is normal but even 2.5 is fine if the baby is active and happy. Now his routine has finally settled into three solid 1-hour naps.

I used to cry literally every afternoon when my 5-month-old refused to nap, thinking I was doing everything wrong. Please don't blame yourself if they don't hit the standard 3-4 hours every day. You are doing a great job, just take it one day at a time.
