How much core sleep do you need?

I've been using a sleep tracker app and it talks about 'core sleep'. I don't always hit the recommended hours. How much core sleep do I actually need to feel refreshed and healthy?

Generally, about 1.5 to 2 hours of deep core sleep is what your body needs to feel fully refreshed.

Bro, with college exams and late-night gaming, I barely get any deep sleep. But my fitness band says we need at least 1.5 hours of deep core sleep out of a 7-8 hour sleep cycle to not feel like a zombie the next day.

Since my high blood pressure diagnosis, I make sure to get at least 7 hours of total sleep to keep my heart healthy. Proper rest and regular checkups are key to managing your lifestyle diseases.

I used to wake up tired despite sleeping 8 hours, and realized my core deep sleep was very low. Cutting down screen time 1 hour before bed and keeping the room completely dark changed everything for me.

Eating a light dinner at least 2-3 hours before bed really helps in getting better deep sleep. Heavy, spicy food right before sleeping digests slowly and ruins your core sleep cycles.

My physician explained that 'core sleep' usually refers to the first 4 to 5 hours of sleep where you get most of your essential deep and REM cycles. As long as you feel refreshed and active during the day, your body is getting what it needs.

I get so anxious when my tracker shows low deep sleep, I start worrying if it will affect my heart. But I read that even 1 to 2 hours of deep sleep is normal for most adults. Try not to stress too much about the daily numbers.

My smart watch tracks this every night! Ideally, your deep and REM sleep (which make up core sleep) should be around 20-25% of your total sleep time. So if you sleep for 7 hours, aim for about 1.5 to 2 hours of solid core sleep.

To improve your core sleep quality, try walking for 30 minutes in the evening or doing some light exercise if your health allows. It naturally helps your body slip into deeper sleep stages faster.

While sleep trackers show different stages, a healthy adult usually needs 7 to 8 hours of total, uninterrupted sleep for proper core recovery. If you consistently feel exhausted despite sleeping, it's best to consult a sleep specialist.
