How many grams of carbohydrates for diabetics per day?

My doctor told me to watch my carb intake for my diabetes. Can someone please tell me how many grams of carbohydrates are generally recommended for diabetics per day? I want to make sure I'm following it correctly.

Generally, we advise patients to aim for roughly 130 to 150 grams of carbs daily, but this is highly individual. If you have other issues like kidney disease, this number changes. Please check with your consulting doctor once.

My mother was just diagnosed yesterday and we are very confused about how to count these grams. Can anyone suggest if standard home-made thin rotis have too many carbs? We want to be safe.

My father usually aims for around 45 grams per major meal, so it comes to about 135 grams a day. We swapped simple wheat roti for multigrain ones, which made a huge difference in keeping him full without sugar spikes.

There is no universal number since carbohydrate tolerance depends on your age, weight, and activity level. While 130 grams is a common baseline, you should consult your diabetologist or a clinical nutritionist to get an accurate daily limit.

Honestly, trying to count carbs at 2 AM after a long shift makes my head spin. I just gave up on heavy dinners and switched to light salads and soup. It keeps my morning fasting sugars decent without complex math.

At 53, my doctor tells me to eat 120 grams of carbs, but my mind still wants three plates of poha. I have compromised now by using smaller plates to trick my brain. It is all about portion control, otherwise tracking grams is too stressful!
