How long to wait to eat after vomiting?

My younger brother had a bad bout of food poisoning yesterday and he kept vomiting. He's feeling a bit better now but is very hungry. How long should he ideally wait after vomiting has stopped before he can start eating something light?

I usually get so scared that I will throw up again if I eat anything. Does anyone else feel super anxious and wait for like 5-6 hours before touching food? Is that safe or should I eat earlier?

Bro, honestly, don't eat anything for a couple of hours or you'll just end up cleaning the floor again. Just stick to water or some ORS from the chemist. Once the nausea is totally gone, go for basic white bread or boiled rice.

Give your stomach at least 1 to 2 hours of complete rest after vomiting. Start slowly with small sips of water or electral powder first. Once you can keep liquids down, you can move to light foods like khichdi or toast.

My health app suggests waiting for 2 hours after vomiting before trying any solid food. Hydration is the priority right now, so track your water intake and sip slowly. You can log some light clear soup once your stomach settles down.

Please don't force yourself to eat too soon; I did that once during food poisoning and ended up severely dehydrated in the hospital. Give it 2 hours, and if the vomiting doesn't stop or is accompanied by high fever, go to a doctor immediately. Don't sit at home ignoring it.

I am not very sure about this because it is my first time dealing with a bad stomach infection. I waited for an hour and had some warm milk, but then I felt sick again. Should I avoid dairy completely when this happens?

Hey, relax, your body is just resetting itself. Don't rush to eat anything for at least two hours, just rest. Take tiny sips of water if you feel dry, and don't worry about missing a meal, health comes first.

As a hardcore foodie, it is torture to stay away from food, but your stomach needs a break! Wait for at least 2 hours and avoid anything oily, spicy, or buttery. Bland boiled potatoes or dahi chawal are your best friends right now.

Beta, wait for an hour and then chew on a small piece of ginger or sip warm water with a bit of black salt. Don't rush to eat grains right away. Have some light moong dal khichdi only when you feel genuinely hungry.

Give your tummy a break for at least 2 hours, man! Treat it like a crashed computer that needs a reboot. Once it's back online, feed it boring stuff like toast, not spicy biryani!

Wait about 2 hours after throwing up. Start with a spoonful of water or ORS every 15 minutes to rehydrate without triggering the vomiting reflex. Avoid dairy, caffeine, and fats completely for the next 24 hours.

My family physician always tells us to wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before even sipping water, and at least 2 hours for food. This gives the stomach lining time to recover from the irritation of muscle spasms. If you can't keep even water down after a few hours, please visit a clinic.
