How long should you fast before a diabetes test?

My doctor has asked me to get a diabetes test done soon. I remember hearing that I need to fast before it, but I'm not sure for how many hours. What's the usual fasting period required?

Before a diabetes test, particularly a fasting blood sugar test, it's generally advised to fast for 8-12 hours. This means no food or sugary drinks, only plain water. Even a small snack can affect the results, so be strict with it.

Whenever I have a test at Lilavati or Jaslok, they always give clear instructions. For a diabetes test, it's usually 8-12 hours fasting, only water. But the best thing is to confirm the exact time with your specific doctor or the lab where you're getting tested. Don't guess!

Yaar, for a diabetes test, usually they say 8 to 12 hours of fasting. Like, just water allowed. Actually, it's better to ask the lab directly or your doc, because sometimes for different tests, the exact timing can vary slightly. Don't eat anything pakka!

Please, for your own good, follow the fasting instructions properly. I once thought a little tea wouldn't matter and my results came back unclear, causing more anxiety and needing a re-test. Fast for at least 8-10 hours, maybe 12 if the doctor says, with only water. Don't take chances with your health like I did.

Hey! For a fasting diabetes test, it's usually 8-12 hours. I always try to schedule my test first thing in the morning so I can just fast overnight. Just remember to drink water, but no coffee, tea, or anything with sugar. It's important to get accurate results.

This is something I always double-check because I get anxious about inaccurate results. For a fasting blood sugar test, it's typically 8 to 12 hours without any food or caloric drinks. Seriously, stick to just water. It's better to be overly careful to get the right diagnosis.
