How long should a 2 week old sleep?

My baby is just two weeks old and I'm totally new to this mom life. She seems to be sleeping almost all the time. Is there a specific number of hours a 2-week-old should be sleeping in a day?

Please be very careful with newborns. A 2-week-old should sleep a lot, like 14-17 hours in a 24-hour cycle, but they wake up every 2-3 hours for feeds. If your baby is unusually sleepy, not waking for feeds, or seems very lethargic, please call your pediatrician immediately. We had complications, so I am extra cautious.

Oh, the newborn stage is full of worries, I remember. A 2-week-old sleeps a lot, maybe 14-17 hours total, but in short bursts of 2-3 hours because they need to feed. We used to try a gentle massage with oil before sleep, it sometimes helped them settle a bit better. Just ensure they're warm and well-fed.

My 2-week-old seems to sleep all the time but also wakes up so frequently! I'm worried if it's too much or too little at different times. Did anyone else feel so confused about their newborn's sleep?

Listen, for a 2-week-old, they need a lot of sleep. Around 14-17 hours in a 24-hour cycle is pretty standard. Don't stress too much about specific timings; they'll usually wake up when they're hungry. Just focus on keeping them fed and comfortable. It's a demanding time, but you're doing great.

At 2 weeks, newborns typically sleep for about 14-17 hours in total over a 24-hour period. However, these are not long, uninterrupted stretches. They usually wake up every 2-3 hours for feedings. It's completely normal for their sleep to be fragmented at this stage as they need frequent nourishment. If you have any concerns about their feeding or sleeping patterns, it's always best to consult your pediatrician.

A 2-week-old? They're basically tiny sleepy vampires, they sleep A LOT! Think 14-17 hours in a day, but mostly in 2-3 hour chunks because, well, gotta refuel the tiny human. So yeah, don't worry if they're snoozing most of the time, that's their full-time job right now!

I totally freaked out in the first few weeks, thinking my baby was sleeping too much or too little! But everyone, and then the doc, told me that 2-week-olds literally just eat and sleep, about 14-17 hours a day. They don't have a schedule, they just follow their tummy. It's normal, don't worry!
