How long is flu contagious after fever breaks?

I had the flu, and my fever broke about 3 days ago. I still have a cough and feel a bit weak. When can I confidently say I'm no longer contagious and go back to work?

I totally get why you're asking this, it's confusing to know when you're truly 'safe' for others. Even after your fever breaks, you can generally still be contagious with the flu for about 5 to 7 days from when your symptoms first started. It's usually advised to wait until you've been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication, and then consider yourself contagious for a bit longer. Better to be cautious!

Ugh, the flu. It's like that annoying relative who stays even after the party's over. Even if your fever's gone, you can still pass on the flu for about 5 to 7 days after your first symptoms appeared. So, yes, you can still be a germ-spreading ninja without realizing it. I wish it was simpler, like just sleeping it off.

Oh, I know this feeling so well with my kids! Even when their fever goes down, the doctor always tells me they can still be contagious. For the flu, it's generally about 5 to 7 days from the very first symptom, and especially until they've been fever-free for 24 hours without medication. So, I keep them home and away from others for a bit longer, just to be safe. It's tough, but important for everyone.

This is a really important question for public health. From what I've learned, similar to managing PCOS which needs continuous care, flu contagiousness doesn't just stop when the fever breaks. You can still transmit the virus for about 5 to 7 days after symptoms begin, and definitely until you've been fever-free for a full 24 hours without fever-reducing meds. Always err on the side of caution and consult a healthcare professional if unsure.

Even after the fever is gone, your body is still fighting. You can usually be contagious for up to 5 to 7 days from the start of flu symptoms. It's like how you need to stick to a good diet for a while even after feeling better. Hydration and good rest are key. Just ensure you're not spreading it to others, especially those with weaker immunity.
