How long does sodium weight gain last?

After eating out at a restaurant, I often feel bloated and a bit heavier, probably from all the sodium. I try to drink more water, but I'm curious, how long does sodium-induced weight gain typically last?

Sodium-induced water retention usually goes away within a day or two once you cut down on salt and drink enough water. However, if you notice persistent swelling or weight gain, especially with fatigue, it's always good to get your thyroid checked, as that can sometimes be a factor. Better to rule out anything serious with your doctor.

Usually, sodium weight gain (water retention) is temporary and resolves within 24-48 hours by reducing sodium intake and hydrating. But if you're concerned or it lasts longer, please consult a doctor. Persistent swelling can sometimes indicate other underlying issues, so it's always safer to get it checked.

Too much sodium means your body holds extra water, so you see temporary weight gain. Cut back on salty snacks and processed foods, drink plenty of plain water, and it should clear up in 24 to 48 hours for most people. Simple, practical solution.

Oh, that salty snack bloat! It's usually a short-term visitor, not a permanent resident. Drink water like it's going out of style, and it should flush out in a day or two. Unless you decide to bathe in namkeen, then maybe longer! 😂

That water retention from too much salt usually goes down quickly, maybe a day or two if you're careful with your food. My mother always said to drink lots of water. But if you are worried, it's good to talk to your family doctor, they know best about your body.

From my experience, if I eat too much salty food, I feel puffy for about 1-2 days. I usually ask my doctor at Apollo how long things like this last and what's the best way to manage it. They always give very clear advice. Best to ask your own doc to be sure.
