I completely understand how overwhelming the recovery and pain after a Total Knee Replacement can feel. The acute surgical pain is quite intense for the first 3 to 4 weeks, but please be patient with yourself. It gradually gets much better, so don't lose hope.
The severe pain begins to subside after a month, but complete recovery takes about 3 months. Since I manage diabetes, I had to keep a close eye on my blood sugar levels because high sugar can slow down surgical healing. Eat a clean, low-glycemic diet to help your body recover.

My knee felt like it belonged to someone else for the first 6 weeks! The sharp pain settles down in about a month, and then it is just a matter of dealing with the daily physical therapy. It is a slow process, but we have no choice but to push through.

I used to panic during the third week because my knee was still so swollen and painful, and I thought the surgery had failed. But my physiotherapist reassured me that this is completely normal for TKR. By week 6, the pain dropped significantly, so hang in there.
