How long does neurogenic fever last?

My relative had a head injury and later developed a high fever that the doctors called neurogenic fever. I'm trying to understand more about it. How long does neurogenic fever typically last in such cases? Is it a short-term thing?

Neurogenic fever is caused by a brain injury or neurological trauma and can be highly unpredictable, lasting from a few days to several weeks. Because it doesn't respond to normal paracetamol, you must keep the treating doctors informed so they can manage it with specific therapies. Please don't try to manage this at home.

Just reading about high fevers from brain issues makes me so incredibly anxious. It usually lasts as long as the brain swelling or irritation is present, which can take days or weeks. Sending you so much strength, please make sure the ICU team is monitoring this closely.

Don't panic, neurogenic fevers are quite common after brain procedures or injuries and they do eventually settle down as the brain heals. Just trust the medical team, keep a close watch on the temperature logs, and make sure the patient is kept comfortable.

I got terrified when my brother's temperature kept hitting 103 without any infection after his spine surgery. But the doctors explained it was neurogenic and normal for his condition, and it resolved in about 4 days. It is scary but definitely manageable under doctor supervision.

When my uncle was in the recovery ward, his neurogenic fever lasted for about a week. It was really stressful to watch, but the doctors assured us it happens as the nervous system stabilizes. It did go away completely once the brain swelling reduced.

My cousin had this in the hospital after a bad head injury, and the spikes lasted for about 5 days before starting to settle down. The hospital used cooling blankets and special meds to bring it down because normal Crocin wasn't doing much.

Since this fever is controlled by the brain's hypothalamus and not an infection, it can persist for days during the acute healing phase. Make sure the patient gets light, easily digestible fluids like thin moong dal soup if they are allowed oral feeds, to keep their energy up.
