How long does morphine last for pain?

My uncle recently had surgery and was given morphine for the pain. I wanted to know, for how long does a dose of morphine typically last for pain relief? He's still feeling a lot of discomfort.

When my grandmother was given morphine in the hospital after her knee surgery, it usually kept her completely pain-free for about 3 to 4 hours per dose. It helps so much with the intense pain, but it also made her extremely drowsy, so she just slept through most of those hours.

When my teenage son had major orthopedic surgery, they used morphine in the recovery room and it kept him comfortable for roughly 4 hours. We made sure to keep a close log of the timings and pain ratings so we could coordinate with the nursing staff before the pain spiked again.

I totally get it, seeing a loved one in severe pain is so heartbreaking and you just want the relief to last. Typically, it works for about 4 hours, and then the doctors adjust the next dose based on how they are coping. Stay strong, they are in safe hands.

Usually, a standard dose of morphine provides relief for about 3 to 6 hours depending on whether it is an injection or oral tablet.

For severe post-op pain, a single dose typically works for around 4 hours. Once the pain levels are manageable and your doctor clears you, light mobility and a clean diet with lots of water really help clear the medication from your system and prevent constipation.

In hospital ICU setups, morphine pain relief lasts around 3-5 hours. Keep in mind that heavy pain management like this is usually done during inpatient stays, so make sure to check your health insurance coverage for daily room charges and pharmacy costs beforehand.
