How long does menopause weight gain last?

Since menopause started, I've noticed I've put on some weight, especially around my belly. My doctor said it's common, but I'm wondering how long this menopause weight gain usually lasts? Will it ever go away on its own?

The weight gain can persist for several years because of hormonal changes, but please get a full thyroid and glucose test done too. In my case, I ignored it thinking it was just menopause, but it turned out to be severe hypothyroidism which needed medical intervention.

Honestly, the weight seems to arrive overnight but refuses to leave even after years! My menopause started 4 years ago and I am still fighting the belly fat. You just have to laugh it off sometimes and keep trying to eat healthy.

It feels like even looking at a gulab jamun adds weight during menopause! The metabolism slows down so much that the weight gain can stay unless you strictly cut down on sugar. I am trying to replace my late-night snacks with roasted makhana now.

Please don't worry too much about the scale right now. The weight gain usually stabilizes after your periods have completely stopped for a year or two. Just focus on your health and don't take stress.

This phase of life brings many changes in the body, and the weight gain can last for 3 to 5 years during transition. Practicing daily pranayama and gentle yoga helps balance the hormones and keeps the mind peaceful during this journey.

In my personal experience, the weight gain lasted for about three years during the peak transition. I didn't take any medication, I just focused on eating smaller home-cooked meals and walking in the park, and eventually, the weight stabilized.

The hormone fluctuation lasts for about 4 to 5 years, and so does the tendency to gain weight. Since we don't have hours to spend in the gym daily, simple habits like portion control and standing more during work shifts make a practical difference.

While weight gain is common during menopause, any sudden or massive increase should be evaluated by a gynecologist. Sometimes fluid retention or other underlying issues can mimic menopause weight, so please get a proper checkup.

The weight gain can become permanent if lifestyle is not adjusted. Once your doctor clears you, start lifting light weights or doing brisk walking to build muscle mass, which naturally boosts the declining metabolism during menopause.

Haan, menopause ka weight gain toh bohot ziddi hota hai, easily 3-4 saal tak pareshan karta hai na. But if you walk daily and control your diet, it slowly starts coming down. Keep patience, sab theek ho jayega.
