How long does ligament pain last?
I twisted my ankle playing badminton last week, and the doctor said it's a ligament sprain. It still hurts quite a bit when I put weight on it. I wanted to know, how long does ligament pain generally last?

A mild ligament sprain takes about 2 to 4 weeks to heal, while severe tears can take several months. It is best to get an MRI if the pain is persistent.
My mother suggested applying warm sesame oil, which helped soothe the calf muscles, but for the actual ligament pain, it took about 4 weeks to subside. The orthopedic doctor told us that ligaments have low blood supply, so they heal slowly. Please give it time and don't rush into heavy walking.
It takes around 3 to 6 weeks for a common sprain. Don't waste money on expensive pain patches; just buy a simple crepe bandage to keep the joint stable and apply ice packs three times a day. Keeping it rested is the most practical way to recover quickly.
Normally, a minor grade 1 sprain feels better in 2 to 3 weeks with rest and icing. Grade 2 or 3 tears can take 6 weeks to 3 months, sometimes needing a brace or physiotherapy. Use the RICE method (rest, ice, compression, elevation) initially and consult a specialist if there is zero improvement.
Don't worry, ligament pain is notoriously slow to go away, usually taking 4 to 8 weeks. Just promise me you won't put too much weight on that leg or try to run too soon, as that can worsen the tear. Rest properly, keep it elevated, and let it heal completely.
