How long does it usually take to pass kidney stones?

I've been diagnosed with kidney stones, and the doctor said they might pass on their own. I'm experiencing some pain. What's the typical duration it takes for kidney stones to pass naturally?

If it is a small stone under 4mm, it can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks of drinking water like a camel. If it is larger, well, prepare yourself for a long and painful negotiation with your bladder! Better to get an ultrasound done to know what size you are dealing with.

I panicked so much when my back started hurting and I found out I had a 5mm stone, I thought I'd need immediate surgery. But my doctor assured me it is very normal, and with plenty of fluids, it quietly passed on its own in about 2 weeks. Just stay calm, drink water, and keep tracking it.

Look, it depends completely on the size. A 3mm stone will pass in a week or two, but anything above 6mm has a very low chance of passing naturally and might take months or require medical intervention. Don't waste time waiting endlessly; get a urologist's opinion.

Usually, small stones pass within 2 to 4 weeks. During this time, watch your diet closely—avoid high-oxalate foods like spinach, tomatoes, and chocolate. Focus on drinking plenty of water and fresh lemon juice, which can help break down certain types of stones naturally.

I've passed three stones in my life, and they usually take 2 to 3 weeks. My top tip is to drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily, and when you feel the urge to pee, try to hold it for a bit so the pressure helps flush the stone out. If you get a high fever, get to an emergency room immediately.

Realistically, expect a timeline of 2 to 4 weeks for a small stone to pass. If you have a busy work travel schedule, carry your pain medications with you because the pain can strike suddenly. If it doesn't pass in a month, schedule a follow-up doctor visit to discuss options.

It usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks for small stones. Try to rest as much as possible and drink warm fluids. I hope you get relief from the pain very soon.

Think of it as a tiny, unwanted guest who takes about 2 to 4 weeks to finally pack up and leave. Just keep drinking water until you feel like a water tank! Before you know it, you will hear a satisfying 'ping' in the toilet bowl, haha.

It took me 20 days of drinking tasteless barley water and avoiding my favorite spicy snacks to finally pass a 4mm stone. The food restrictions were almost as painful as the stone! But keeping your diet plain and drinking gallons of fluids is what actually gets it out.

My doctor said I have a 3mm stone and it should pass in a few weeks. I am a bit scared about how much it will hurt when it actually comes out. Does it cause sudden sharp pain when passing through, or is it mostly just a dull ache?

I tried barley water, coconut water, and everything else for my 4mm stone, and it finally came out after 18 painful days. Keeping yourself constantly hydrated is the only practical thing that works. Keep a small sieve or container to catch it so you can get it analyzed.

It can take about 2 to 3 weeks for the body to naturally clear small stones. Try to stay calm, drink warm water, and practice gentle healing thoughts instead of focusing on the pain. Keep yourself well-rested and trust your body's natural recovery process.

On average, stones smaller than 4mm pass within 31 days in about 80% of cases. However, if you experience high fever, persistent vomiting, or inability to pass urine, these are red flags. It is best to have a urologist monitor the stone's position via periodic imaging.

With a good hydration level and daily light movement, small stones can pass in 10 to 20 days. Regular walking actually helps gravity push the stone down the ureter. Just make sure you are not doing heavy deadlifts or straining yourself while you have a stone.
