How long does it take tylenol to break fever?

My son has a fever, and I gave him some Tylenol as per the pediatrician's suggestion. He's still quite warm. How long does it usually take for Tylenol to start bringing down a fever in children?

Oral paracetamol typically begins reducing body temperature within 30 to 60 minutes. While it is an effective over-the-counter antipyretic, you should not self-medicate for more than three days if the fever persists. A proper diagnosis by a doctor is essential to find the underlying cause.

It usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes for paracetamol (which is what Tylenol is) to start bringing down a fever, peaking at 2 hours. When I visited Manipal Hospital, the physician clearly advised me to maintain a gap of at least 4 to 6 hours between doses. Always consult your doctor for the exact dosage for your body weight.

According to my family doctor, paracetamol starts working in 40 minutes and its fever-reducing effect lasts for about 4 to 6 hours. He also noted that we shouldn't expect the temperature to drop to normal immediately; even a 1-degree drop is considered a good response. Never exceed 4 grams in a day to protect your liver.

I totally get it, waiting for a high fever to drop when you are feeling miserable is so stressful. It usually takes around 45 minutes for the medicine to kick in and start cooling you down. Try to rest, keep yourself hydrated, and let the medicine do its work.

It takes about 30 to 60 minutes to show a drop in temperature, which I usually track on my smart health app. The app helps me log the exact time of the dose so I don't accidentally take it too early again. If the temperature doesn't budge after 90 minutes, it is best to consult a healthcare provider.

For me, the fever starts coming down in about 45 minutes after taking paracetamol. If you have underlying conditions like high blood pressure, you have to be very careful with cold and flu formulations that contain decongestants, as they can spike your BP. Keep tracking your temperature and vitals regularly.
