How long does it take to reverse diabetes?

My doctor told me that with proper diet and exercise, type 2 diabetes can sometimes be 'reversed' or controlled very well. I'm motivated to try, but I want to know, how long does it actually take to see significant progress in reversing diabetes?

I was looking up some clinical research on diabetes remission and apparently, it is highly possible for newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics. People who lose about 10-15 kg of weight often see their HbA1c return to normal within 3 to 6 months. It's really cool how much of an impact direct lifestyle changes can have.

True, you can't permanently cure it, but putting type 2 diabetes into remission usually takes 3 to 6 months of strict lifestyle changes.

You can't actually 'reverse' it permanently like magic, yaar, but you can definitely put it in remission. It took my dad around 4 months of strict low-carb diet to bring his sugars completely to normal levels. It's all about consistent daily discipline with your meals and walk.

When I was first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I felt completely broken and cried for days thinking my life was over. But I slowly cut down on rice and sugar, and in about 6 months, my HbA1c came down from 8.2 to 5.6 without heavy meds. It is hard emotionally, but please don't lose hope, you can manage this.

While many talk about reversing diabetes, please remember that stopping your prescribed medications abruptly can cause dangerous sugar spikes and kidney damage. Any change in your diet or reducing insulin must be done under strict medical supervision. Get your HbA1c checked every three months and let your endocrinologist guide you.

Trying to reverse diabetes as a foodie is the ultimate struggle because you have to say goodbye to hot jalebis and potatoes. But swapping them with sprouts and grilled paneer worked, and my sugar levels normalized in about 5 months. You can still enjoy tasty food, you just have to change the ingredients!

My physician made it clear that 'reversal' actually means achieving drug-free remission, which requires maintaining an HbA1c below 6.5% for at least three months without diabetes medications. This process typically takes 3 to 6 months of targeted weight loss and medical nutrition therapy. Regular monitoring of pancreatic beta-cell function is also highly recommended.
