How long does it take prednisone to work for asthma?

My asthma has been flaring up recently and my doctor prescribed prednisone. I took the first dose this morning, and I'm really hoping for some relief soon. How quickly does prednisone typically start to work for asthma symptoms?

Hey, don't stress too much! Prednisone is a steroid, so it takes some time, usually around 6 hours to start working. Just keep your inhaler close by for immediate relief and let the doctor's dose do its job gradually.

From what I was reading on health forums, oral prednisone usually takes about 4 to 6 hours to start showing noticeable improvement in breathing. It is not an instant rescue inhaler, but it helps reduce the lung swelling over a few days.

My doctor just prescribed this for my severe cough and wheezing. Does it really take a few hours to start working? I feel a bit nervous taking steroids for the first time, does it have any major side effects?

It generally takes about 4 to 8 hours to bring relief to the breathing passages. Sit quietly, focus on gentle and calm breathing, and let the medicine do its work. Take care and stay positive.

I have used prednisone during bad asthma flare-ups in the winter. It took about a day for my chest tightness to really ease up. Have faith, it works very well, just follow your doctor's instructions about tapering the dose.

Prednisone takes around 4 to 6 hours, but if you are struggling to breathe right now, do not wait for the tablet to work. I once ignored my worsening asthma thinking the pill would save me and ended up in the ICU. Please go to the hospital immediately if you feel severe breathlessness.
