How long does dysphagia last after a stroke?

My father had a stroke last month and now he's having trouble swallowing, the doctor called it dysphagia. We are all worried about him. Can someone tell me how long this swallowing difficulty typically lasts after a stroke? Will he get better soon?

It varies a lot depending on the brain recovery, sometimes taking a few weeks to several months. When my daughter had swallowing issues after a neuro event, we had to feed her very small, thickened pureed portions slowly. Always keep the head elevated while feeding.

For me, swallowing difficulty was very severe initially after my stroke last year. With intensive daily speech therapy, I started swallowing soft foods after about 3 weeks, though complete recovery took nearly 3 months. Keep practicing the exercises, they really work.

Swallowing problems can take anywhere from a month to half a year to heal after a stroke. While we tried giving warm herbal teas and soft mashed foods, we realized that proper clinical rehabilitation and speech therapy are absolutely essential for safe recovery.

Actually yaar, it depends on the stroke's impact on the nerves, so it can take a few weeks to even months. My uncle took about a month of solid speech therapy to swallow properly again. Just don't skip those swallowing therapy sessions, they are crucial.

My brother faced this after his paralysis stroke. It took almost 2 months of doing basic throat exercises and feeding him very thin khichdi and dal water slowly. Have patience, brother, the strength in the throat comes back slowly with daily efforts.

Please don't lose heart, recovery takes time and it usually starts improving within 2 to 6 weeks. Just ensure they don't rush while eating to avoid choking or coughing. If there is sudden choking or chest congestion, contact your doctor immediately.
