How long does dilaudid last for pain?

My mother had a minor surgery yesterday, and the doctor prescribed her Dilaudid for the post-operative pain. She's asking how often she can take it. How long does Dilaudid usually last for pain relief?

From what I was reading online last night, it usually peaks pretty fast and lasts for about 3 to 4 hours. But honestly, it depends so much on the person's metabolism and body weight. Just wanted to see if others felt the same way.

It usually helps with severe pain for a few hours, around 3 to 5 hours. While the medicine does its work, I always find that slow, gentle deep breathing helps calm the mind and body. It makes the pain more bearable as the effect slowly reduces.

Please be very careful with this medicine. My cousin had severe nausea and breathing issues when she was given this post-surgery. If you are feeling dizzy or having heavy breathing, please inform your doctor immediately, don't wait.

For me, the heavy effect worn off in about 3 hours when I was in the hospital. I kept a small diary on my phone to track exactly when the pain started returning. It helps you tell the nurse or doctor exactly when you need the next dose.

Beta, these are strong hospital medicines and their main effect stays for 3 to 4 hours only. Along with whatever the doctor has given, keep drinking warm water and take light soups. Do not take any extra dose without asking your doctor first.

In my experience, these strong painkillers last for about 3 hours, but the sleepiness they give lasts the whole day! My body just wanted to restart like an old computer. Just rest up and let the body heal, no point rushing.

Actually yaar, it starts working super fast but goes away in like 3-4 hours maximum. By the fourth hour, the pain starts creeping back. Better to talk to your doc about the exact timing so you don't suffer.
