How long does amitriptyline take to work for nerve pain?

My nerve pain is really getting to me, especially in my leg. The doctor started me on Amitriptyline, but I haven't felt much difference yet. Will it take a long time to show some improvement?

Son, nerve pain takes time to heal, so don't lose hope. When I was prescribed this medicine, it took almost 2 to 4 weeks before I felt any real difference in my leg pain. Keep taking it regularly as your doctor advised.

For diabetic neuropathy, it usually takes around 3 to 4 weeks to notice a reduction in pain. I always monitor my blood sugar levels closely because managing diabetes well is the key to preventing further nerve damage.

My doctor just started me on a very low dose of amitriptyline for my back nerve pain. I was told it might take 2 to 3 weeks to show results. Does it cause a lot of drowsiness in the morning for others too?

It generally takes about 2 to 4 weeks to start reducing nerve pain. Please be patient and keep in touch with your doctor during this period.

Don't panic if it doesn't work in the first few days. It is not a regular painkiller, so it takes at least 2 to 3 weeks to soothe the nerves. Just take it at night as prescribed and give your body some time to heal.

I totally get it, living with constant nerve pain is incredibly hard and frustrating. Amitriptyline takes time to build up in your system, so you might only see progress after 2 to 4 weeks. Hang in there, it does get better.

For neuropathic pain, amitriptyline is started at a low dose and titrated up. You can expect initial relief in 2 weeks, but full therapeutic benefits often take 4 to 6 weeks. Always consult your specialist before adjusting the dosage.
