How long does a growing pain last?

My 8-year-old son sometimes complains of leg pain, especially at night. My mother calls them 'growing pains'. How long do these growing pains typically last for children, or is it something that comes and goes?

Growing pains, eh? My kids used to complain about them, felt like hours to them I guess! For us parents, it lasts until they finally fall asleep, haha. Seriously though, usually a few minutes to an hour, mostly at night.

My kid has growing pains and it feels like they last for HOURS when he wakes me up! But yeah, usually it's just 15-30 mins of crying and then he's asleep again. Wish I could go back to sleep that easily.

It's totally normal to wonder about this, especially if you're seeing it in your child! Growing pains usually come and go, lasting just a short while, maybe a few minutes up to an hour or so. They typically resolve on their own with some comfort.

Growing pains are typically short-lived, mostly happening in the evenings or at night. They can last for some minutes, up to an hour sometimes. A gentle massage or warm compress can help ease the discomfort.
