How long do newborns sleep a day?

My wife and I just had our first child, and we're trying to understand his sleep patterns. He seems to sleep almost all day. How many hours do newborns sleep in a 24-hour period?

Honestly, I have no idea haha! My little cousin sleeps like, all the time? But then suddenly he's up and crying for ages. Must be exhausting for new parents.

Newborns sleep a lot, it's very normal for them. Their little bodies are growing so fast. Don't worry if it feels like all they do is sleep and eat.

Arre, chote bacche toh sote hi rehte hain. 16-18 ghante toh aaram se. Unki body ko growth ke liye bohot rest chahiye hota hai na, beti. Ye toh bhagwan ka diya hua gift hai.

I've read that newborns sleep a lot, sometimes up to 18 hours. But every baby is different, and it's always good to talk to your pediatrician if you have any specific concerns about your baby's sleep patterns. They can guide you best.

Yaar, newborns sleep like, a LOT. Actually, they say around 16-17 hours is pretty common, but it's broken up into small chunks. So it feels like they're never really fully sleeping, na?

My son, when he was a newborn, seemed to sleep all day and night! It's completely normal for them to sleep for 16-18 hours in a 24-hour cycle, often in short bursts. Don't stress too much about it.

From my experience with my two kids, newborns typically sleep between 14-17 hours a day, sometimes even up to 18-19. But it's in short cycles, maybe 2-4 hours at a stretch. Don't expect long, uninterrupted sleep from them.
