How long do diabetics live after amputations?

My grandfather recently had a leg amputation due to complications from diabetes. It's been a very difficult time for our family. I'm trying to understand the long-term outlook; how long do diabetics generally live after amputations?

Honestly, don't stress too much about general statistics, ya. Every case is so different, depends on so many things like overall health, how well diabetes is managed, etc. Focus on recovery and good care!

This is a serious medical question. You should really be asking the treating surgeon or the endocrinologist who knows the patient's specific history. They are the best people to give you accurate information based on the individual's condition and treatment plan.

Yaar, actually, you can't really put a timeline on these things. It's not like a fixed expiry date, na? Post-amputation life expectancy for diabetics depends totally on how well they control their sugar and follow doctor's orders. Every case is different.

Hey, it's natural to worry about such things. But please remember, these are medical situations unique to each person. Instead of general numbers, focus on excellent post-operative care, strict diabetes management, and regular follow-ups with the doctor. That makes the biggest difference.

This is very dependent on individual factors. The key after an amputation, especially for diabetics, is extremely strict sugar control, proper wound care, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle with controlled diet and regular check-ups. This helps prevent further complications and improves quality of life.
