How long do babies sleep?
My baby is just a few months old, and sometimes I feel like she sleeps too much, and other times too little. I'm a new mom, so I'm trying to figure out what's normal. How many hours do babies generally sleep?

Babies sleep a lot, but not in one go! Newborns can sleep 14-17 hours a day, but in short bursts. As they grow, sleep consolidates. Don't expect long stretches too early, it will gradually happen. Focus on a routine for yourself to manage your time.
I'm just researching this for my sister who's expecting! It seems like newborns just eat and sleep, but not for long periods. Then as they get older, the sleep patterns change quite a bit, right?
The sleep needs change drastically from a newborn to an older baby. For accurate, stage-specific advice, it's best to discuss this with your pediatrician during your baby's checkups. They can give guidance based on your baby's individual development.
Newborns need a lot of sleep for growth, sometimes up to 18 hours, but it's broken sleep. As they get a few months old, maybe 12-15 hours. For parents, try to get some physical activity in when the baby naps, even a short walk, it helps with energy.
Babies sleep? Ha! They sleep just enough to make you think you're going to get some rest, and then they wake up! But truly, they sleep a lot of hours in total, just very broken up. Good luck with that!

My doctor told me that for newborns (0-3 months), it's 14-17 hours. For infants (4-11 months), it's 12-15 hours. And for toddlers (1-2 years), 11-14 hours. It's mostly naps and nighttime sleep combined, and it's rarely continuous, especially in the early months.
