How long can you live without a thyroid?

Someone I know had their thyroid removed due to medical reasons, and it made me curious. Since it regulates so many body functions, how long can you actually live without a thyroid gland?

Without a thyroid? As long as my doctor keeps giving me those magic little pills, I guess! Honestly, with proper medication, life is pretty much normal. The only downside is remembering to take the meds every single morning without fail.

Beta, if you mean after thyroid removal, then you can live a perfectly normal life with daily medication. I had my thyroid removed years ago and have been fine. Just remember to take your pills regularly; that's the main thing.

Probably less time than I can live without sleep these days, haha! But seriously, if you take your medication daily, you can live a totally normal lifespan. Just gotta be consistent with those pills, even when your brain is half-asleep.

Longer than I can live without WiFi, that's for sure! Jokes aside, if your thyroid is removed, with daily hormone replacement, you can live just as long as anyone else. It's a very manageable condition.
