How long can you go without sleep?

My team at work has a big deadline coming up, and we're all working extra hours. Sometimes I feel like I haven't slept properly in days. How long can a person really go without sleep before it starts causing serious health issues?

I used to panic so much if I couldn't sleep for even one night, thinking my health was ruined. But I realized our bodies are tough; even if you stay awake for 36-48 hours, you will recover completely once you get one good night's rest.

I once went almost 3 days without proper sleep due to family stress and ended up with a bad migraine and acidity. Drinking a cup of warm chamomile tea or soaking your feet in warm water really helps you fall asleep naturally before your body crashes.

I have been awake for almost 30 hours now because of exam anxiety and my eyes are burning. Is it safe to take a small nap now, or will that disturb my sleep cycle for tonight?

Unless you are trying to win a Guinness World Record or survive a horror movie, please don't try going past 24 hours! Your brain will start playing tricks on you, and trust me, arguing with your own shadow is not fun.

After 24 hours of no sleep, your focus is as bad as being legally drunk, so please don't drive or do important tasks. Realistically, your body will force you to sleep by day 3 or 4 anyway, so it's best not to test your limits.
