How long can someone live with liver failure?

My uncle was recently diagnosed with liver failure and the news has really shaken our family. We are trying to come to terms with it. Can someone explain how long a person can live with liver failure?

When my relative had liver issues, we tried so many things like drinking boiled papaya leaf juice and sugarcane water to help. While those are fine to ease minor symptoms, actual liver failure requires emergency medical treatment. Please don't delay going to a proper hospital thinking home remedies will fix it.

I went through acute liver failure last year due to drug-induced toxicity and luckily recovered after two weeks of intensive hospital care. If it is acute, the liver has an amazing ability to regenerate once the trigger is removed, but chronic cases might need a transplant. Getting to an ICU on time is what saved my life.

Look, managing liver failure at home is extremely tough and risky. What we did was find a good government hospital nearby that has a specialized hepatology ward to manage the high costs of ICU stays. Keep their medication files organized so you can show them immediately during an emergency.

In our family, we always emphasize taking traditional buttermilk and curry leaves for liver health, but for liver failure, we must fully trust modern medicine. The timeline can vary from a few days in acute cases to months if managed with intensive care or transplant. Please follow whatever your doctor advises without delay.

I agree with others that medical monitoring is crucial. Make sure you keep a daily track of their mental alertness, as confusion is a major warning sign in liver failure.

When the liver fails, the body stops processing proteins properly and muscles can waste away very fast. While heavy exercise is completely out of the question, keeping up with a specialized low-protein diet prescribed by their clinical dietician is essential. Try to encourage very light movement if they have the energy to prevent stiffness.
