How long can kidney stones stay in kidney?

My husband found out he has a small kidney stone during a routine check-up. The doctor said it's not causing problems right now. We're wondering, how long can kidney stones generally stay in the kidney without causing any symptoms or needing intervention?

I am not very sure about this, but can they really stay inside for years without causing any pain? My cousin was saying she had one for five years without knowing. Is that safe or should we be worried?

My uncle had a stone sitting in his kidney for almost three years and had no clue till he did a random health checkup! It’s crazy how they can just chill there without any pain. Glad he found out before it started hurting.

Sometimes they remain quiet for years, sleeping in the body. I had a small stone that stayed for two years before passing naturally. Along with water, gentle twists and deep breathing helped me stay comfortable, but do keep checking with your healer.

Do not ignore them even if they are silent. I let a stone stay for two years and it caused a severe blockage that almost damaged my kidney function permanently. Go see a doctor and get it evaluated before it turns into an emergency.

Dealing with chronic health stuff taught me that leaving things alone is rarely simple. They can sit silently for quite a while, but it's always safer to keep an eye on them. I'd suggest asking a doctor if it needs active treatment or just monitoring.

They can stay there for a long time, but that doesn't mean it's safe. A silent stone can slowly damage kidney tissue over months. Please get a proper scan done and consult a urologist to be absolutely safe.

Stones can technically stay in the kidney for years if they aren't blocking anything. But the danger starts when they try to move down the ureter. It is best to monitor their size with an annual ultrasound so they don't catch you by surprise.
