How long can an infant sleep in a bassinet?

My sister just had a baby, and she's trying to figure out all the baby gear. She bought a bassinet, but she's not sure how long babies can actually use it before they need to move to a crib.

Most babies can sleep in a bassinet until they are about 4 to 6 months old. Once they start rolling over or pushing themselves up on their hands and knees, it is no longer safe because they could tip it over. We transitioned our daughter to a crib the moment she showed signs of rolling.

From what I have learned from my mommy support groups, you should generally move them out of a bassinet by 5 months, or earlier if they hit the manufacturer's weight limit. Every baby develops differently, so always prioritize safety over age limits.

Typically, the limit is around 4-5 months or when they hit about 9-11 kg, depending on the bassinet's build. Just like monitoring your lift weights, keep an eye on your baby's physical milestones like rolling over, which means it is time for a crib.

A newborn enjoys the cozy boundaries of a bassinet for about the first 3 to 4 months of life. As they grow and their natural movements increase, they need a wider, more stable space to sleep peacefully. Let them guide you with their movements.

We had a scare when our baby tried to sit up and almost fell out of his low bassinet around 5 months. Please follow the weight guidelines strictly and don't take any chances. If you have questions about your baby's motor development, ask your pediatrician.

It is simple: 4 to 5 months is the maximum limit. If your baby starts rolling over or reaches the weight cap specified by the brand, the bassinet is officially retired. Switch to a standard wooden crib for better safety.

I ignored the safety warnings on baby gear once and my baby had a minor fall, which taught me to always be extra careful. Please check the manual of your bassinet for the exact weight limit; most are only safe till 4-5 months or 9 kg. Don't delay the transition to a proper crib.

My son outgrew his bassinet by the fourth month because he was super active and kept hitting the sides. If your baby is getting too long or can roll over, just move them to a crib immediately. It is much safer.
