How long can a type 1 diabetes live without insulin?

A distant relative, who has Type 1 diabetes, is going through a very tough financial situation and mentioned he might not be able to afford insulin for a bit. It made me wonder, how critical is it to have insulin for someone with Type 1?

Please do not even think about experimenting with this. I once ignored my high sugar levels thinking it was just stress, and ended up in the ICU with major complications. Type 1 diabetics absolutely need insulin daily; going without it for even a day or two can lead to a deadly condition called DKA. Please consult a doctor immediately.

My cousin goes to Apollo for his Type 1 treatment and the endocrinologist there made it very clear that insulin is a daily lifeline. Without it, dangerous toxins build up in the body within hours. You must speak to a specialist doctor to understand how crucial every single dose is.

While regular walking and a clean diet are great for general fitness and managing insulin sensitivity, they can never replace insulin for a Type 1 diabetic. The body absolutely needs that external insulin to function. Never stop taking your prescribed doses, even if you are highly active.

Look, I have a friend who is Type 1, and he cannot skip his dose even for a day. His body literally doesn't make insulin at all. If someone stops taking it, they can get seriously sick and end up in the hospital within a few hours to a couple of days.

According to the detailed advice our family doctor gave us, a person with Type 1 diabetes cannot survive without insulin for more than a few days at best. The body starts breaking down fat too quickly, leading to Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) which is a life-threatening emergency. Always ensure a continuous supply of insulin.

That is like asking how long a smartphone can run without a battery. Not very long, my friend! For Type 1, insulin is the power source. Don't play around with this, keep those vials stocked up and ready.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 recently after a severe episode of ketoacidosis because my symptoms went unnoticed. Believe me, within just a day of my body lacking insulin, I was vomiting and couldn't even stand. It is a critical medical necessity every single day.

Hamare pados mein ek ladka hai jise yeh bimari hai. Uske gharwale roz niyam se use insulin lagate hain. Iske bina shareer bilkul kamzor ho jata hai aur jaan ko khatra ho sakta hai. Aap turant doctor babu se miliye aur sahi salah lijiye.

I am barely surviving on three hours of sleep today, but even my exhausted brain knows you cannot skip insulin if you are Type 1. It is not like Type 2 where diet changes can manage it sometimes. Going without insulin for even 24-48 hours is extremely dangerous, so please do not take any chances.

This question makes me so anxious just reading it. Is everything okay with you or a family member? Skipping even a single shot seems so terrifying because of how fast things can go wrong. Has anyone else here ever faced an emergency where they ran out of insulin?
