How long can a human go without sleep?
For my competitive exams, I've been pulling all-nighters recently. Sometimes I only get 2-3 hours of sleep, and I'm wondering how long someone can actually manage like this without it causing serious problems.

While the absolute record is around 11 days, most people start experiencing severe hallucinations and cognitive decline after just 3 or 4 days. Trying to push past 36 to 48 hours is completely foolish and ruins your focus. Sleep is a non-negotiable requirement if you want to function in the real world.
Scientifically, extreme sleep deprivation can lead to severe cardiovascular and neurological risks within just a couple of days. While individuals have survived several days in controlled studies, it causes immense strain on the body. If you are experiencing chronic sleep loss, consulting a sleep specialist is the safest step.
Please don't try to pull all-nighters or test your body's limits like this, it is really not safe. Most people can stay awake for a few days in extreme cases, but your brain starts shutting down way before that. Go turn off your screen, drink a glass of warm water, and try to get some proper rest tonight.
Going without sleep for even 24 hours can completely wreck your endocrine system and metabolic health. As someone managing thyroid issues, I know how fast sleep deprivation triggers hormonal imbalances. Please get your thyroid levels checked regularly and talk to your doctor if you are struggling to sleep.

I totally get it, sometimes late-night thoughts or stress make it impossible to sleep, and you start wondering how long your body can survive like this. Pushing beyond 2 or 3 days is extremely painful and scary for your mental health. Please be gentle with yourself and try to find a calm routine to help you drift off.
