How long after starting antibiotics will tooth pain go away?

I've been having terrible tooth pain for days and just started antibiotics prescribed by my dentist. It's been about a day, but the pain is still there. How long does it usually take for the pain to subside after starting antibiotics for a tooth infection?

Typically, antibiotics start showing effect on tooth pain within 24 to 48 hours as the infection reduces. However, antibiotics only control the infection, they don't fix the underlying dental issue. It is absolutely necessary to follow up with your dentist for a proper treatment plan.

Actually, it takes at least 24 to 48 hours for the pain to go down, yaar. Antibiotics are not painkillers, they just kill the bacteria. So you might need a regular painkiller along with it as per your doc's prescription.

Yes, it usually takes 48 hours for the medicine to work on the swelling. Just be patient and finish the full dosage.

Generally, you will start feeling some relief from the toothache by the second day of your medication. Make sure you complete the full course of antibiotics even if the pain stops. You can also do warm salt water rinses to soothe the area in the meantime.

Honestly, that throbbing pain kept me awake for two whole nights even after starting the pills. It finally got better on day 3. Keep ice packs on your cheek if you want to get any sleep tonight!

I had a massive wisdom tooth infection last month. The antibiotics took almost 3 full days to completely stop the throbbing pain. My dentist had also given me a painkiller for the first two days, which really saved me.

Tooth infections can sometimes affect your blood sugar levels, so keep a close track of your readings. The pain usually starts reducing after 2 days of antibiotics. Avoid sweet cough drops or sugary foods for relief, stick to simple warm water rinses.

Beta, the medicine will take 1 to 2 days to show its effect and reduce the swelling. Keep a clove near the aching tooth for temporary relief, but do not chew hard things. Take your medicines on time as the doctor has prescribed.
