How long after painting can i sleep in the room?

We just got our living room painted yesterday, and the smell is still quite strong. My wife is a bit sensitive to smells, so I wanted to ask how long we should wait before we can safely sleep in that room again.

Honestly, wait at least 48 hours unless you want your dinner to taste like paint fumes. I tried sleeping in a freshly painted room once and the smell was so bad it totally ruined my appetite for biryani the next day. Keep the windows open and sleep in another room for two days.

Bro, don't do it on the first night, the headache is real. I thought it was fine because the walls looked dry, but the fumes woke me up at midnight feeling super dizzy. Give it at least 2 days with the fan on full blast before you move back in.

I am very sensitive to chemical smells because of my health issues, so I always wait at least 3 days. Strong fumes can trigger headaches and respiratory irritation. If you have any existing health or hormonal conditions, it is better to be safe and avoid the room until the smell is completely gone.

Two days is the standard rule. If you are using modern low-VOC or zero-VOC paints, 24 hours is actually enough. Just keep the AC off and let the natural air clear out the room first.

Keep the ceiling fan running on high speed and open all the windows to let the air circulate. Usually, 24 to 48 hours is enough for the strong smell to go away if you are using standard water-based paints. If it is oil paint, then don't sleep there for at least 3 days.

I totally panicked when my kids slept in their newly painted room on day two because the smell was still slightly there. I thought they would fall sick, but they were absolutely fine. Just keep the windows open for cross-ventilation and it should be perfectly safe after 24-48 hours.

Ideally, you should wait 48 hours before sleeping in a newly painted room to avoid inhaling Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). If you have asthma or allergies, doctors advise waiting up to 72 hours. Proper ventilation during and after painting is key to safety.
