How long after a concussion can you sleep?

My son hit his head pretty hard yesterday while playing cricket and the doctor said it might be a mild concussion. He's a bit sleepy now, but I'm worried about him sleeping too much. How long after a concussion is it safe for someone to sleep?

It is honestly so terrifying when you are scared to fall asleep after hitting your head. I remember staying awake in panic for hours thinking something would go wrong. Just having a loved one wake you up gently every few hours at first can bring so much emotional comfort.

Bro, don't stress too much about this. The old rule about staying awake all night isn't really followed now, but you definitely need a doctor to check you first to make sure there is no serious injury. Once they give the green light, good sleep is actually what your brain needs to recover.

The body heals itself best when the mind is at peace and resting. Try to keep your surroundings quiet, pray or meditate for a few minutes, and avoid screens. Let your doctor evaluate you first, and then sleep peacefully knowing you are safe.

Usually, doctors suggest keeping the patient awake for the first few hours to monitor for any red flags like vomiting, confusion, or severe dizziness. If any of these are present, take them to the hospital immediately. Otherwise, peaceful rest is highly beneficial for recovery.

Haan, please call your doctor first before letting them sleep, just to be safe na. Once the doc says it is fine, sleep is very important for recovery. Just make sure someone checks on them every few hours in the night.
