How is thyroid test performed?

My doctor told me I need to get a thyroid test done. I've never had one before and I'm wondering what to expect. How is a thyroid test performed? Is it just a blood test?

For a thyroid test, they just draw a small amount of blood from your vein, usually in the morning. Even though some labs say fasting is not strictly required, I always prefer going empty stomach to get the most accurate baseline readings before having my morning tea.

It is just a simple blood test called TFT, or Thyroid Function Test. Don't go to expensive hospitals for this; local labs do it for around 300 to 500 rupees. You can easily compare prices on health apps and book a home sample collection to save on travel costs.

It's just a quick needle prick to take a blood sample, but I always get so nervous and lightheaded when they draw blood. Does anyone else feel super anxious before a simple blood draw, or is it just me? It literally takes only two minutes, but my heart starts racing every single time.

Yes, it is just a routine blood test where they check your T3, T4, and TSH levels. It takes barely a minute and you get the results the same day.

I was researching this yesterday because I've been feeling unusually tired lately. It turns out it's just a basic venous blood draw. They test your TSH levels to see if your thyroid gland is underactive or overactive, which is pretty straightforward.
