How is thyroid eye disease diagnosed?

My sister has hyperthyroidism and now her eyes look a bit different, bulging slightly. Her doctor mentioned thyroid eye disease. How exactly is thyroid eye disease diagnosed by doctors? What signs do they look for?

Beta, washing your eyes with cold water or putting rose water can give temporary relief from dryness, but thyroid eye disease needs proper medical tests. You must visit an ophthalmologist. They will check your vision, eye movements, and might ask for a CT scan of the eye sockets to see if the muscles are swollen.

My eyes are already bulging from staring at office spreadsheets till 2 AM, but if you have actual thyroid eye disease, it's a bit different. Doctors diagnose it through detailed eye exams, checking how much your eyelids retract, and sometimes doing an MRI. Go get it checked instead of relying on late-night internet searches like me.

I agree with the advice to see both an eye doctor and your regular endocrinologist, as they usually diagnose it by checking eye pressure, muscle movement, and blood thyroid levels together.

Haan, thyroid issues can directly affect the eyes, and many people don't even realize it initially, na. An eye specialist will do physical measurements of your eye protrusion and check your optic nerve. It's best to get a proper clinical evaluation done soon.

While gentle eye rotation exercises and pranayama can help relax the strained muscles, the actual diagnosis of thyroid eye disease must be done scientifically. A specialized ophthalmologist will test your field of vision and eye alignment to confirm the condition. Please take care and follow their advice carefully.

Diagnosing thyroid eye disease requires a coordinated approach between an endocrinologist and an ophthalmologist. They will perform a comprehensive eye exam, assess any swelling in the surrounding tissues, and correlate it with your thyroid function tests. Relying on professional clinical evaluation is definitely the best way forward.
