How is a liver ultrasound performed?

My doctor has recommended a liver ultrasound after finding some abnormalities in my blood work. I'm not familiar with this procedure. Can someone explain how a liver ultrasound is performed?

Actually, it's very easy and pain-free, yaar. I had one done last week. They just apply some cold jelly on your belly and move a small device around to see the liver on their screen. The whole thing gets over in 10 minutes max.

Please don't worry, it is a very simple and safe test. There is no pain involved, and they will guide you nicely throughout the process.

Haan, bilkul normal test hai ye. Bas subah khali pet jana hota hai taaki liver saaf dikhe ultrasound me. Dr thoda cold gel lagate hain stomach pe aur fir scan karte hain, na koi injection na koi dard!

When I had my liver ultrasound, they just asked me not to eat anything for 6 hours before the test. During the scan, the doctor asked me to take a deep breath and hold it a few times. It was done very quickly and comfortably.

The ultrasound itself is simple, but make sure a qualified radiologist does it. In my case, a minor liver congestion was missed by an inexperienced center, which caused issues later. Always get your scans done at a well-known diagnostic lab.

Just remember to fast for at least 6 to 8 hours before the scan so that gas doesn't block the view of your liver. Wear loose clothes like a t-shirt so it is easy to expose your abdomen. It is a quick and very routine scan.

It is basically like a free belly massage with some ice-cold jelly! The doctor just rolls a plastic mouse on your stomach while you look at a black and white screen. Absolutely zero pain, so chill out.
