How is a liver scan performed?

My doctor advised me to get a liver scan because I've been having some digestive issues. I've never had one before, so I'm curious. How is a liver scan performed, and what can I expect?

I was super nervous before mine, but it turned out to be so easy! They make you lie down and put some cold gel on your stomach. The technician just glides the scanner over your liver area. It is completely painless and gets over in 15 minutes.

Actually, a liver scan is usually just an ultrasound or a FibroScan, yaar. I had a FibroScan last year because of fatty liver. They just use a probe on your right side with some cool gel, and it feels like a slight tapping on your ribs. Very simple!

I totally understand the anxiety you must be feeling right now; I couldn't sleep the night before my scan. But honestly, it is the most peaceful test. No needles, no pain, just a simple jelly massage on your side. Take a deep breath, you will be totally fine.

A liver scan is very easy, but make sure you get it done from a proper certified radiologist. If there is any fatty liver or swelling, it is best to catch it early so you can consult your physician and start diet changes immediately.

Depending on what your doctor ordered, it's either an ultrasound or a specialized FibroScan. You just lie down on the table, expose your right abdomen, and they scan it. Just book it at a reputed diagnostic center so you get accurate reports.

I was researching this because my dad has to get one next week. From what I read, if it is a CT scan they might give you a contrast drink, but if it is an ultrasound, you just need to keep a fast. It seems very routine and quick.

In my 60s, I have undergone multiple liver ultrasounds and CT scans. There is absolutely nothing to worry about. For an ultrasound, they just ask you to fast for a few hours. It is completely non-invasive and painless.
