How holidays affect mental health?

With all the holiday season coming up, I've noticed I actually feel more anxious and overwhelmed, not less. Do holidays affect mental health, and if so, how? I feel like I'm the only one who struggles during this time.

A holiday is a wonderful time to reconnect with your breath and nature. When we step away from our daily routine, our nervous system gets a chance to switch from fight-or-flight mode to a peaceful state. I always practice simple deep breathing facing the mountains during trips, it feels deeply healing.

Holidays are supposed to relax you, but planning the budget and handling relatives usually gives me more stress! Still, staying away from office emails for a week does wonders for my sleep. Just make sure you don't plan a hyper-active trip that makes you need another vacation to recover from it.

For me, getting away during holidays really helps control my blood pressure spikes. But I always keep an eye on my salt intake during trips and carry my BP monitor with me. A relaxing trip is great for the heart, but don't ignore your regular checkups and medicine routines while traveling.

Honestly, going on trips with friends completely clears my head. But solo trips are even better if you want some real quiet time. Just turn off your phone notifications, otherwise there is no point of a holiday.

Holidays are great to refresh, but I always make sure to keep some movement going, like swimming or long walks. If you eat out daily and stop moving completely, the sluggishness can actually make you feel more down. Balance your treats with some activity.

I was actually reading an article about this yesterday. It seems even just the anticipation of an upcoming holiday can boost your mood for weeks beforehand. Have you guys also felt that excitement building up during work days?

People online keep saying holidays will cure your depression, but that is not true. If you are struggling with severe mental health issues, a trip won't fix it permanently. Please consult a qualified doctor or therapist instead of relying on travel therapy.
