How fast does thyroid medication work?

My thyroid levels are off, and the doctor prescribed medication. I'm feeling really sluggish. How fast can I expect this thyroid medication to start working and make me feel better?

Managing thyroid is like managing blood sugar, it requires patience. The medication starts working in your body immediately, but you will only start feeling better in about 4 to 6 weeks. Always take it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning for best absorption.

I ignored my fatigue for a year thinking it was just work stress, which was a huge mistake. Once I finally got checked and started thyroid medication, it took around 6 weeks to really stabilize my levels. Please get your TSH checked regularly and don't skip your doses.

My daughter started on thyroid pills last year because she was always tired. It took about a month for her energy levels to improve and her blood reports to show a difference. Just be patient, give it daily without fail, and do the follow-up blood test after six weeks.

I started my thyroid medicine two weeks ago but I still feel so tired and my hair is still falling. Is this normal or is the dose too low? How long did it take for others to start feeling some energy back? I am getting a bit worried.

Thyroid hormone works very gently and takes about 4 to 8 weeks to build up in your system. Along with the daily pill, practicing neck-stretching yoga poses and pranayama can help support your healing process. Give your body the time it needs to find its natural balance.
