How fast does skin cancer spread?

My neighbour was diagnosed with skin cancer, and it's making me think about my own sun exposure. I want to know how quickly skin cancer typically spreads if it's not caught early.

It completely depends on the specific type you are talking about. Basal cell carninoma almost never spreads and just grows locally, while melanoma can spread to other organs incredibly fast. Skip the internet searches and get a biopsy done to know exactly what you are dealing with.

My uncle had a squamous cell growth on his arm last year. It took several months to double in size, but we got it surgically removed before it could spread anywhere else. The key is monitoring; if you see any borders changing color or bleeding, go straight to an oncologist.

I always track my health metrics and even use an app to monitor skin moles over time. While benign spots don't change, aggressive skin cancers can spread internally within a few months of appearing. If you notice any rapid changes in size, shape, or color, log it and show a dermatologist right away.

Please do not take this lightly or wait around to see if it changes. We delayed checking a small dark spot on my cousin's shoulder thinking it was just a mole, and it ended up spreading to his lymph nodes quite rapidly. Go see a qualified surgical oncologist immediately for a proper assessment.

When we went to the oncology department at a major hospital for my relative, the specialists explained that skin cancers have vastly different spreading rates. Melanoma can move to the lymph nodes in a matter of months. I highly recommend visiting a reputed hospital and asking them to run the proper staging tests.

At my age, I have seen many friends go through various health scares. Most skin growths are very slow and can be easily managed if you catch them early. Don't let your mind run wild with the worst-case scenarios; just consult a doctor and let them guide you.

As a mother, I know how terrifying it is to worry about these things. When my teenager had an unusual skin growth, the doctor reassured us that most common skin lesions grow and spread very slowly, giving plenty of time to treat them. Just get a professional opinion so you can sleep peacefully at night.
